About Me

I hold a Diploma in piano teaching, and I was successful in attaining the DipABRSM from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music in October 2021.

I was awarded the Cert PTC in July 2020 by the highly regarded Piano Teachers' Course UK, which is the country's leading professional development course solely for piano teachers.

I regularly take short courses and attend workshops with leading independent piano teachers to ensure that I keep up to date with the latest teaching methods.

I have been playing the piano for almost 42 years and I transitioned into teaching after starting a family.

My other music qualifications include the following:

A-Level Music (1995)
Advanced Certificate Diploma (1995) (predecessor to the DipABRSM)
Grades 1-8 Piano all with Distinction
Special Certificate awarded for Distinctions gained in the higher grades (5-8)

I don’t place any emphasis on piano examinations because I don’t believe these are the sole indicator of being a good musician. I do understand however that having certificates can help with University applications. The higher grades count for UCAS points with a distinction at grade 8 being worth as much as 30 UCAS points.

Taking exams is purely up to the pupil, but if desired, I provide the necessary guidance and preparation and I give detailed mock exam feedback. I have a 100% pass rate with all pupils being awarded Distinctions and Merits.

I am a member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians (ISM). I am also a member of the Curious Piano Teachers community. This group offers regular training from leading experts in Piano teaching and music education.

I have public liability insurance. I hold a current DBS Enhanced Disclosure Certificate (awarded in April, 2024)
